01 -
In a large mixing bowl, dissolve each package of flavored gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water (using separate bowls for each color if you want to keep the colors distinct). Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved, making sure no crystals remain.
02 -
Add the cold water to the dissolved gelatin mixture and stir well to combine. Next, add the miniature marshmallows and stir until they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture. The marshmallows will begin to melt slightly into the warm gelatin.
03 -
Place the gelatin mixture in the refrigerator for approximately 1 hour, or until it becomes slightly firm but not completely set. The mixture should be thick enough to hold its shape when scooped but still pliable enough to form into balls.
04 -
While the gelatin mixture is chilling, prepare your coating ingredients. Place the crushed graham crackers, shredded coconut, chopped nuts (if using), and sugar in separate shallow bowls. Make sure the bowls are wide enough to easily roll the jello balls in the coatings.
05 -
Once the gelatin mixture has reached the right consistency, remove it from the refrigerator. Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, portion out the mixture and use your hands to roll it into balls about 1-inch in diameter. If the mixture sticks to your hands, lightly wet your hands with cold water between rolling each ball.
06 -
Immediately after forming each ball, roll it in your choice of coating (graham cracker crumbs, coconut, chopped nuts, or sugar), ensuring it's completely covered. You can use different coatings for variety or stick with one favorite.
07 -
Place the coated jello balls on a baking sheet lined with wax paper, making sure they don't touch each other. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until they are firm and fully set.
08 -
Once the jello balls are firm, arrange them on a festive serving platter for immediate enjoyment, or store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be kept refrigerated for up to 3 days. For gifting, place in decorative boxes or tins lined with wax paper.
