Flaky Buttery Cheese Danish (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 box (17.3oz or 320g) puff pastry, thawed
02 - 1 egg
03 - 2 teaspoons water

→ Filling

04 - 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
05 - 1 egg yolk, room temperature
06 - 1/4 cup (30g) powdered sugar
07 - 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
08 - 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
09 - 1/8 teaspoon salt

→ Glaze

10 - 1 cup powdered sugar
11 - 1-2 tablespoons milk
12 - 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C (160°C fan) and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.
02 - In a bowl, combine cream cheese, egg yolk, powdered sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well using a whisk or a rubber spatula.
03 - Using a rolling pin, roll out the puff pastry into a 12x12-inch square.
04 - Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut the dough into 9 4-inch squares. Fold each corner of each square about 1 inch toward the center and press gently to adhere.
05 - Using a small cookie scoop (1 tablespoon), place a tablespoon of cream cheese filling into the center of each puff pastry square.
06 - In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Using a pastry brush, coat the sides of each pastry around the filling.
07 - Bake in the preheated oven for 16-18 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely before adding icing.
08 - In a bowl, combine powdered sugar with milk and vanilla extract. Add the milk slowly to achieve the desired icing consistency.
09 - Drizzle the prepared glaze over each cooled pastry before serving.

# Notes:

01 - Form and fill the danishes directly on the baking sheet to avoid moving them and risking wrinkles or tipping.
02 - Lightly roll puff pastry to smooth out lines. Cut into even squares for consistency.
03 - Customize with toppings such as chocolate chips or fresh berries before baking.
